Liga MB Round 2 (Regular Season): Metapan keep a leadership position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Liga MB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Metapan smashed Brujos at home 107-47. Metapan forced 29 Brujos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Brujos' players. The best player for the winners was forward Alejandro Barahona (189-1999) who scored 19 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals. Guard Edgar Contreras (179-2001) chipped in 27 points and 6 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American center Brandon Thompson (206-1998, college: Tohono CC, agency: VSG) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds for the guests. Brujos' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Brujos will play next round against Salvadorenos trying to get back on the winning streak. Metapan will try to continue on its current victory against Independiente on the road.
Santa Ana recorded a loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by Ahuachapan 89-79. Guard Oscar Grande (175-2001) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. Robert Story contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Sean Scott (190-1997, college: Pfeiffer) replied with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for Santa Ana. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ahuachapan will play against Santiagueno in Usultan in the next round where they are favorite. Santa Ana will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of Ahuachapan against Santa Tecla on Thursday night. Host Ahuachapan was crushed by Santa Tecla in Ahuachapan 100-62. Nick Moore had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners. EJ Blackwell responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla will meet at home Cojute in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Ahuachapan will play against Santiagueno in Usultan and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 2 Independiente was defeated by Salvadorenos in San Salvador 64-57.

Santa Ana recorded a loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by Ahuachapan 89-79. Ahuachapan players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Guard Oscar Grande (175-2001) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Robert Story (183, college: WSSU) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Sean Scott (190-1997, college: Pfeiffer) replied with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and center Marco Tejada (194-1984) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Santa Ana. Salvadorenos - Independiente 64-57

There was a minor upset in San Salvador where Independiente was defeated by Salvadorenos 64-57 on Thursday. Salvadorenos forced 26 Independiente turnovers. Strangely Independiente outrebounded Salvadorenos 54-35 including a 42-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Salvadorenos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Salvadorenos made 9 blocks. Venezuelan-Colombian center Michael Hinestroza (210-1990, college: UALR) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Diego Rivera (-2007) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists during the contest. American forward Noryen Lasley (201, college: Ave Maria, agency: Fully Feared Sports) responded with 8 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import center Bryant Leonard (211, college: Lane, agency: Fully Feared Sports) scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Salvadorenos will meet Brujos in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Independiente will play against Metapan and hope to win that game.

Very important is a home loss of Ahuachapan against Santa Tecla on Thursday night. Host Ahuachapan was crushed by Santa Tecla in Ahuachapan 100-62. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Ahuachapan's 40. They outrebounded Ahuachapan 50-22 including a 35-17 advantage in defensive rebounds.
